IS-BAO Audits
AeronomX is an accredited auditor for the International Standards – Business Aircraft Operations (“IS-BAO”) (see
http://www.ibac.org).
IS-BAO is a code of best practices. It has been developed by the
industry for the benefit of the industry, promoting highly professional
operational practices and building upon its excellent safety record.
IS-BAO standards are adopted voluntarily by companies desiring to
enhance their safety practices and professionalism.
AeronomX’s
lead auditor, Walter Kraujalis, has more to offer over other
auditors. Much of his career was spent flying trips domestically and
internationally, holding an ATP pilot license with type ratings in
eight different business jets and helicopters. Walter earned is way up
into management, having run two different Fortune 500 flight
departments and performed the start-up for two other departments. As
the former Director of Safety for USAIG Aviation Insurance, Walter has
performed dozens and dozens of audits for corporate and charter flight
departments, including helicopters. Last but not least, Walter is an
attorney (non-practicing) who can better interpret and apply the standards as well as
understand potential liabilities.
Our approach to the audit
process is very positive in that we recognize you are adopting IS-BAO voluntarily to
enhance your department. We ask that you submit to
us in advance all of your manuals, forms, and self-audit protocol checklist. We
review these documents to look for any possible problems or major
non-conformities well before we arrive on the scene.
The
onsite visit is normally conducted within two business days for
departments with up to three aircraft. Most of the time is spent
reviewing the manual, your processes, and records. The remainder of the
time is for interviewing flight department personnel for their
understanding of IS-BAO and the Safety Management System process. The
audit is very “open”, in that any findings we discover are mentioned
and discussed immediately. We do not surprise you by dumping a bunch of
negative findings on you at the end of the audit. You will have the
completed audit report within two weeks after we receive your action plans following our departure.
